Supporting the people and places that support us

Giving back to our communities

At Pemberton Holmes, community is at the heart of everything we do. As a locally owned brokerage with deep roots on Vancouver Island, we believe in giving back to the neighborhoods that have supported us for generations.

We’re proud to support local youth through sports initiatives that help build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills. These programs create meaningful opportunities for young people—and contribute to the strength and vibrancy of our communities.

By investing in the next generation, we’re not just helping kids play—we’re helping communities thrive.

Highlights from our offices

Oak Bay

From handing out Halloween candy during Trick or Treat on the Avenue to participating in the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade, our Oak Bay office stays closely connected to the community. We also support the Oak Bay Village REALTOR® Food Bank Challenge during the holiday season.

Sidney

Our Sidney team brings fun and heart to the community all year long. Each Halloween, we take part in Treat Street by handing out 150–200 treat bags — often in costume — a tradition that’s been going strong for over seven years.

Each summer, we host a BBQ fundraiser with proceeds donated to local causes. Last year’s event raised $1,177.40 for San Penn Hospital’s acute care unit. During the holidays, we also contribute gift baskets to the community lunch organized by local brokerages, helping spread a little cheer.

Sooke

Our Sooke team hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt that’s become a beloved tradition in the community. Organized by our real estate agents and property managers, the free event draws nearly 500 people and includes face painting, bubble stations, gift tables, and a visit from “Pemberton Pete.” It’s our way of giving back to the families who support us year-round and creating a fun, memorable day for kids of all ages.

Duncan

We’ve partnered with the Cowichan Valley Welcome Wagon to provide new residents with baskets filled with local goodies and helpful resources. Our agents also volunteer monthly with Nourish Cowichan, a non-profit that provides meals to children in need. You’ll often find our team set up at the Saturday Farmers Market, local home shows, and community events like Duncan Days — handing out colouring books, treats, and offering real estate advice. We even ran a local colouring contest in The Citizen to engage young families and showcase their creativity at our Queens Road office.

Parksville, Bowser & Port Alberni

Our Parksville-area team is deeply involved in the community. Harry Holmes races in the Hornet class at Saratoga Speedway — a family-friendly venue where kids love to cheer from the stands. You’ll also find our booth at the Summer by the Sea Market and handing out corn at the Lighthouse Fall Fair in support of Bowser Elementary.

During local festivities at Memorial Plaza, we often volunteer to give out free popcorn at events like the Christmas tree lighting and “Happy Noon Year.” Members also volunteer with Arrowsmith Search and Rescue, and several of our agents give back through other local charities, including the Lions Club.

Salt Spring Island

Peter Allan, one of our Salt Spring agents, serves as Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainability Education and Action (ISEA) and has spent over two decades on its board. A trained art historian and entrepreneur, Peter has launched eco-adventures across BC and beyond — bringing creativity and purpose to environmental leadership.

Peter is the founder of the Youth Climate Activism Award, a national initiative that empowers teens to take climate action and share their stories. It’s a powerful example of how our agents lead with passion — both in business and in their communities.
