Adrian Masterskaya
Adrian grew up in southeastern Ontario town of roughly 4000 folk and many cows. This town and his families’ lack of wealth instilled in him a strong work ethic. The only jobs to be had were hard labour, if you could get them.
Upon graduating high school he headed west to Vancouver, spending the next 15 years living in Vancouver’s Westside and West end (he couldn’t get enough west it seems).
For work he completed a bricklaying apprenticeship, drove taxi and worked in restaurants. As you may know, Vancouver was expensive even back then, working two jobs helped him “get ahead” or something of that nature.
Upon achieving his red seal in brick masonry, he was bit by the travel bug. He spent the next 4 years alternating between working long hours and backpacking the developing world spending time in 40+ countries. From Madagascar to Kazakhstan, he’s likely explored your homeland. To travel this much he spent a season (June-March) working as a roughneck (then motorman) on a conventional single oil drilling rig in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The rest of the time between trips he laid masonry during the day and worked in restaurants at night.
At this stage of life, Adrian made good on his promise to his parents to get some more education. He completed a Bachelor of Business Administration with honours at BCIT in Burnaby. Between semesters he started a masonry contracting business which he would grow to 5 employees in the next 6 years.
After a short stint rescuing his wife from the clutches of Alberta (Calgary) during a pandemic, Adrian and his wife moved to the Comox Valley.
Why real estate? It appears that I was working towards a career as a realtor for some time without knowing it. It’s a long story, ask in person if you’re curious. Twenty years of construction and contracting experience, many books, podcasts, news articles and direct wisdom from full-time real estate investors over the years built a knowledge base.
