As you know, we are not just all about real estate at Pemberton Holmes – we are big into community too.  Being a part of Vancouver Island history is a big part of our identity, and we are proud to share with you some of the festive goings-on in some of our favourite neighbourhoods.

DuncanChristmas Express

Weekends throughout December

The holidays wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the BC Forest Discovery Centre and a ride on the Christmas Express!  The decked out steam train runs on weekends throughout December, every 20 minutes from 4pm to 9pm.  This is an annual fundraising event for the museum and is not to be missed.  Click on the link above for ticket pricing and dates

Ladysmith – Scrooge in Rouge

November 30, Dec. 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15

Matinees 2pm: Dec. 2, 9, 16

Hopefully you have a sense of humour for this first one, ‘cause it’s a little unique!  The Ladysmith Little Theatre is proud to present Scrooge in Rouge, with the description as follows: “This quick-change, cross-dressing version of the Charles Dickens classic is set in a Victoria music hall. The Royal Music Hall Twenty-Member Variety Players are beset with a widespread case of food poisoning. This leaves only three surviving members to soldier on through a performance of A Christmas Carol.”  Hang on to your hats folks – this could great crazy!  Call the box office for tickets because they won’t last.

Courtenay – Holiday Resort Walk

Weekends throughout December

The event page on the Crown Isle Resort & Golf Communty website describes it better than I ever could: “Crown Isle’s Christmas spectacular is an annual celebration of the season, gathering with friends and family, and giving back. Visit the Resort to see thousands of lights, holiday scenes and characters, visit with Santa, play games, and mini golf, travel down Christmas Tree Trail, enjoy Christmas music and movies, toast a s’more, and warm up with hot chocolate and cookies. Inside the Resort Clubhouse you can also visit the Gingerbread Village and bid on gingerbread creations and teddy bear baskets in our silent auction to benefit charity.

Parksville – Christmas on the Farm

December 15 from 10am to 3pm at Morningstar Farms

Beautiful Morningstar Farms (home of Mooberry wine and the Qualicum Cheeseworks) is opening its gates this holiday season for some family fun!  Enjoy wagon-rides, live music, crafts for the kids and some storytelling at this free event.  There will also be a bonfire to roast marshmallows by, hot chocolate and popcorn, and an opportunity to do a mulled wine tasting.

Nanaimo Skate with Santa

December 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Frank Crane Arena – regular admission rates apply.
December 21 from 3:45 to 5:15 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre – this one is free thanks to Coast Capital Savings.
The Nanaimo Rec Centre invites you and the kids to share some ice with Santa himself!  There are two dates and locations to choose from, and you can expect hot chocolate, Christmas treats, draws and prizes.  Be sure to check the Rec Centre website for information on some of the loonie skates happening the week after Christmas as well.

We know we missed a lot of amazing events, there are just too many to list and sadly, not enough days in December to attend them all.  That being said, whatever or however you celebrate the holiday season, we hope you are able to share it with loved ones, and we wish all of you joy and happiness.  And hey – if you happen to need any real estate services in Duncan, Ladysmith,  Nanaimo, Parksville or the Comox Valley, we’re here to help.
