Gary is a past chairman of the Esquimalt Recreation Commission, Gary has served in many community groups. These include The Heart Fund, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Red Shield Appeal, and the Commonwealth Games. Still involved in fastball, over the years he has also been active in soccer, squash, basketball, hockey, and curling.
