Nick was born in Cowichan Station to British parents who had emigrated to Canada a few years before. After little Nick was born they went back the UK, partly to be with there with their family, and partly because with the Suez crisis going on at that time, and there was a good chance that his Dad may get called back to the Royal Navy. Nick was the second eldest of four children in the Brown family living in Guildford, Surrey located about 30 miles south of London. When he left school he was apprenticed as an electrician but after a few years he became restless and went to live in France and Holland for a while. When he returned to England he worked at an engineering firm in Guildford. Nick returned to Canada and Duncan in 1980 just after Mount St Helens in Washington had erupted. After making many friends and settling down in the valley, he got a job building boats and decided to stay. A year later Nick went back to England to marry his girlfriend Jan, and together they both settled here in Duncan. A year or so later they bought their first house and their two children Laura and Sam were born. Unfortunately, the boat company went out of business and Nick found himself out of work, but quickly found employment at the Jeep and VW dealership here in Duncan and worked there for many years.
Before taking the Real Estate course at UBC, Nick worked as a sales rep for an industrial supply and repair shop also here in Duncan, and worked there for about ten years. Nick passed his licencing exam and started his real estate career immediately. It was a very hot market in 2006 and he did well. In 2008 the world markets collapsed and so did the real estate market and many real estate agents went back to former jobs in order to keep the wolf from the door. Nick managed to stay in the real estate business and when things improved he took the Real Estate Managing Broker course at UBC and passed the exam in 2012. In 2018 he started to work entirely in commercial real estate with another very experienced Realtor. Early in 2019 Nick returned to Pemberton Holmes so that he could work in both the residential and commercial fields of real estate.
Nick currently lives in Maple Bay with his wife Jan where he is a volunteer fire fighter at the Maple Bay fire hall. Their children now both live and work in Vancouver.
